As it gets colder and colder here in Central Pennsylvania my husband and I will be traveling to the beautiful Cabo San Lucas. We will be vacationing there at the end of January. I am so excited and have heard many good things about Cabo.
Cabo San Lucas is located at the southern tip of the Baja Pennisula. It is filled with beautiful scenery and crystal blue waters. There is so much to do there: fishing, snorkeling, golfing, off road adventures and most importantly shopping.
I have read that you can see whales in winter months because they come to the warm waters of Cabo to bear their young. I don't know if this makes me nervous or excited. Also, there are many sea lion colonies you can visit. I hope to share pictures when we return.

Haunted Hayride!!
It's that time of year! Everywhere you look there are haunted hayrides, haunted houses, haunted corn mazes. Last night my husband and I went with a group of friends to the Bannerville haunted hayride. It was very inexpensive but the fire company put on a good scare. The hayride lasted approximately 45 minutes-1 hour. There were many different spooky sites along the way that seemed to get someone on the wagon. Screams could be heard for miles. I would recommend this haunting hayride for anyone to attend. Last night was their opening night with five wagon loads going at all times. The people were waiting in long lines to be scared out of their seats.

Small Pennsylvania plays a BIG part in mine rescue!!
All around the world people have watched non-stop with the rescue of 33 miners from a collapsed mine in Chile. The miners have been trapped since August 5th. Brandon Fisher owner of a small company in Berlin, PA Center Rock had a huge part in their rescue. His company made the 28 inch wide canister that functioned as the bit. Shramm Inc of West Chester PA made the T-130 drill that drilled 2,000 feet down to reach the miners. Fisher spent 37 days drilling the rescue shaft to reach the miners. This has been an incredible story to watch. What a miracle for all the miners to have been lifted to safety one by one in a small capsule. All 33 miners were rescued alive. They were able to communicate with the miners during there days in the mine. Many people have speculations that their story will turn into a Hollywood movie.

Tornadoes hit Arizona
On Wednesday October 6th at least two tornadoes struck near Flagstaff, Arizona. The tornado derailed 28 train cars and caused severe damage to more than 100 homes. The Sheriff of Coconino County said that one tornado caused "about a mile of destruction" There was damage also to the train track. The train cars were hauling cargo from Los Angeles to the East. None of the cars contained any hazardous materials. The National Weather Service has stated this type of low pressure system that has hit Arizona with torrential downpours and thunderstorms is very, very unusual.

DUST BOWL 1930s
Watching this video shows you how the people were trapped inside their homes from inches upon inches of dust that gathered. Due to poor farming and severe drought many fields began to erode very quickly. The wind gathered the dust and blew it as if they were in a Nor Eastern snow storm

CORN MAZE
<
Something fun for this time of year!! This is absolutely amazing how they can set up a GPS device to a tractor to cut a 16 acre field into a corn maze. I have never went through a corn maze but might try it this year. They are becoming more popular it seems.

FALL FEST
Thomspsontown fall fest is held every year in the small quiet town of Thompsontown. Each year they start the morning off with vendors in the park. Some of the vendors include flea marketers, crafts, boy scouts, churches, Tastefully simpleful, etc... There is a large array of people for everyone's enjoyement. They have breakfast sandwiches and donuts for purchase. They serve kettle cooked soup and chicken bbq and bbq ribs for dinner. This is a day full of events. They have a mother and daughter singing throughout the enitre day. In the afternoon many local businesses and schools participate in the parade. It is a fun-filled day for everyone at any age. My dad and I went this morning before it got too crowded to see if there was anything we needed to buy. We ran into so many people we knew that we haven't seen in awhile. It's a nice community event that is free.

JUNIATA COUNTY FAIR
This week was the 156th Juniata County fair. I love going to the fair and eating all of the great food that the vendors have. It is great to see all the people who have stands and enter their produce in the fair. We spend a lot of time at the fair looking at the animals the children bring to display from goats, rabbits, sheep and cow. It is also exciting to watch the fair queen pageant and talent show each year. We have many people in the community that have a lot of talent. They enter paintings, photographs, furniture, quilts, doilies and baked goods. The best part of the fair is the dirt track racing. Port Royal is known for 410 sprint car racing. My husband and I are avid sprint car fans. The last night of the fair is the Tuscarora 50 which draws a huge crowd. Not only do you get to see some great sprint car action you get to spend a great evening partying with your friends at the after party.

This is the Natural Pool in Aruba. We took a safari jeep tour of the Island to see this. Is was absolutely breath taking. The waves crash each time filling the pool up continuously. My husband actually swam and snorkeled in it. We also saw the Natural Bridge and many other unigue features of the island. If you ever get a chance to visit Aruba I recommend that you take the tour. The island is completely different from one side to the other.

The coolest place I have ever been!!!
Since we talked about the coolest places we have ever been I decided that my first blog be about Aruba. I was trying to make a slide show of some pictures but I couldn't figure it out. My husband and I have visited Aruba twice now and have plans to return again. The island is located 15 miles north of Venezuela. Because of its location they are protected from hurricanes. 90% of goods and supplies are shipped in from Venezuela because it is not a tropical island. The island is beautiful and the people are very friendly.
